Week 3 Assignment 2

There are various forms of assessments that teachers can use to assess whether or not students have met the learning outcomes of a lesson. After reading a text, have an open ended discussion that is mostly led by the students. This can be done in the classroom in person or through the use of technology with a discussion board (blogger, SMILE etc.). Students can be given projects or activities that demonstrate their comprehension of the text they are reading. Writing can be used as a form of expressing understanding, and analysis of a text read by the students. As a formal assessments teachers can give quizzes, worksheets, and tests.
To assure that all students in the class are reaching the CCSS despite the differences in reading levels, teachers can differentiate instruction in the classroom. Students should be given text on their reading level or a brief explanation of the text prior reading it. Additionally students can group students and have each student in the group complete a different task depending on their level.

Week 4 Assignment 1

Response to Intervention is a process used by teachers to help students in their general ed classrooms succeed. Teachers use various interventions for students who are struggling with a skill or lesson. RTI is not just for learning disabled students, it is used for any student who is struggling to keep up with the class. RTI is a five step process to determine if and what type of intervention students may need. From grade K all students are given a universal screening. Any student who does not meet the benchmark scores will receive scientifically proved intervention in a small group setting. Then a progress monitoring assessment is administered. Individualized intervention is given to those who continue to struggle. The final step is a decision making process to determine if a child is eligible for special ed services. RTI is effective since it allows educators to view the effectiveness of interventions on struggling students. The RTI framework can be viewed as a three sectioned pyram...
